Thanks to JG for opening his home for us to hang out and enjoy some pizza, beer, and all things Porsche.

When I bought my 1998 Mustang GT a few years ago, I just got it because I was tired of driving slow trucks. I’ve had a couple trucks through high school and college, and wanted to have a sense of freedom and speed, so I went out and found my “Stang”. I always thought of it as just another car, and didn’t realize the following that the Mustang has. Car clubs, forums, and race days are just a few examples of different ways that Mustang drivers can meet up and check out each other’s cars. I have recently decided that I want to build my 98 GT and just have it as a daily driver/race car; built for a track, but comfortable and fun on the streets. Now, I know that 96-98 GT’s aren’t known for being the most popular mustangs, and yes they came with the least amount of horsepower to ever come in a Mustang GT, but I’m definitely going to change that when I get finished with this build. Here is a list of mods that I have done to my car so far and the mods that are soon to come…

Already installed-
Exhaust-

Bassani Off Road X-Pipe

Transmission-

Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter

Chassis-

Steeda Shock Tower Brace

Maximum Motorsports Subframe Connectors

Cosmetics-

Chrome Headlights

Chrome Fog Lights

On The Waiting List-
Chassis-

Steeda Strut Tower Brace

Suspension-

H&R Sport Springs

BBK Upper and Lower Control Arms

Maximum Motorsports Caster Camber Plates

Steeda Bumpsteer Kit

Eibach Pro-Damper Shocks and Struts

Brakes-

Ford Racing 13” Cobra Upgrade

Wheels and Tires-

Front-17×9 2003 Cobra Wheels

255/40/17 Tires

Rear-17×10.5 2003 Cobra Wheels

315/35/17 Tires

After I get all of those installed and I am ready for some real power, I plan on building a forged 4 valve turbo Cobra motor and sliding in a T-56 6 speed transmission. I’m also gonna beef up my rear end to handle the power and torque that will be thrown at it. So thats my game plan and you can follow me thru my build at txgarage.com.

See you at the strip,

That would be the GT-R’s Nurburgring time of 7 minutes 26.7 seconds also coming dangerously close to the Corvette ZR1’s time of 7:26.4.

It’s not as easy as strapping on a turbo and pushing the car to the projected 500 horsepower, the GT-R has a massively unique and sophisticated AWD system that allows it to make the most of its 480hp from its twin-turbo 3.8 liter V6. The guys at East Texas Muscle Cars are addressing this by changing up the suspension and brakes on the car as well.

Mike White from East Texas Muscle Cars told Edmunds “We wanted to do something a little different. We’re seeing a lot of interest in something like this for the V6 Camaros.”

The car will make its debut at the 2009 SEMA Show this year in the Squires Turbo System Booth.

Drive for long enough in Texas and you are bound to see a special car or two, today I was cursing (location anonymous for the safety of the owner) and caught a glimpse of a beautiful red roadster sitting in a parking lot. Ignoring my passenger’s frustrations I pulled into the parking lot to get a closer look. In the back of my head I’m thinking this could be a Lotus, but there was something different about this car. Something looked different than other lotus’s I’ve seen and that’s when it hit me, TESLA! Wow they are not the rarest, most expensive, or coolest cars out there but it was pretty exciting to see one here in a parking lot in Texas.

Texas law regulating dealers and competition will be pushed aside for the benefit of the new federally owned GM.
Attorney General Greg Abbott has filed an objection to the GM bankruptcy plan ok’ed by the US government. Texas law regulating dealers and competition will be pushed aside for the benefit of the new federally owned GM. Abbott has be quoted saying “federally owned GM guts Texas statutes that regulate car dealers – and flaunts U.S. Supreme Court precedent that upholds our state-based dealership structure.”
Since GM filed for Chapter 11 on June 1st Abbott has been concerned for the 415 Texas GM franchises, with GM’s proposed dealership agreements, which dealers must sign to keep selling GM cars. The new agreements avoid Texas franchise laws and limit dealers’ ability to sell other types of cars, overrule current laws on where dealers can be located and limit warranty claims under current Texas law.

A “Start-Up” Auto company is hard to conceive in America, oddly enough, with all the technology and regulations in cars today. There is one small American “Start-Up” that I can think of that has worked to an extent and that’s Panoz. The big problem with using Panoz as an example is that they have not done much outside of LeMans racing in nine years. Panoz based out of Hoschton Georgia, started its life in 1989 first developing their Roadster then in 2000 developing the Esperante and that’s about it.

What about here in Texas? There is a local North Texas man with a dream to build a sports car and make a “Start-Up” company called BXR Motors. Bailey and his partner have been working on the Blade since 2007 and are expecting a working prototype by the autumn of this year. He has really shown that it is possible to take a concept and an idea and turn it into reality in a small shop in Texas. Yet the question still remains, will BXR Motors survive or be prosperous? I have always said that the big problem with GM and the big auto industry is that they are too big. There is a place for big auto makers building cars but they also need to be offset by small car companies that build limited production cars. Look at Europe there are as many small companies building cars in sheds or on industrial estates, as there are big car companies. This is one reason why they make more attractive cars, there is more competition from enthusiast building cars and not just big companies.

On to the car!

All we have to work with is the looks and the numbers on paper, but that’s great because the looks are stunning and the numbers match the looks. While being all hand built and carved, what we do know is that the car is being built on a modified Cobra Kit Car chassis. The windshield, doors, and roof are based off an early nineties Miata. The engine of choice is a 550HP 5.4L Ford sourced V8 with a Roushcharger bolted on for good measure. The big V8 will be mashed to a six-speed gear box, powering the rear wheels of course, mounted behind the front axles to give the car a front/mid engine layout with an almost 50/50 weight distribution. Other major parts like suspension, brakes, and differential will be sourced from Ford or Roush as well.

The styling, Bailey says, is not from one car in particular but more the best bits from the best cars. It has almost a mean face with big open chucks in the front fascia letting the car breath in and supplying air to the massive brakes. The headlights look menacing, although sourced from the Mazda 3 you would never know. The hood has a GT40 style LeMans vents sucking air through the radiator and helping with the down force of the car. The dual bumped hood swings down to bulging hips covering the rear tires with an almost sensual rear end. All in all, the car looks fantastic, on paper.

The true test will be on the track. The now growing team of BXR Motors just moved their facilities to Texas Motorsport Ranch in Cresson Texas, one of the only country club style race tracks in the country. There they will tune and optimize their beast to lay down the massive 550 HP and tear up the track. Getting the handling and interior style down is a must as this car will be priced in the $100,000 range. This means that they are priced to compete with the likes of Panoz and the great sports cars of Europe, as well as the new Holy Grail, the ZR1. Those are big shoes to fill but with the unique styling and limited production of this car I’m sure it will be able to make its mark in the enthusiast world.

To find out more about BXR Motors visit their web site http://bxrmotors.com there they have what seems to me as a first ever, you are able to watch him build the car and he gives tips and tricks that he has found for making a ground up sports car.
