Disgruntled Employee Hacked Austin Car Buyers:

Omar Ramos Lopez

Omar Ramos-Lopez, 20

Austin Police arrested a 20 year old male on charges of breach of computer security. Omar Ramos-Lopez was fired from a local car dealer in Austin, Texas, yet instead of using his skills to find new work he decided to hack the employer’s computer system. The Car dealer was bombarded with calls from 80 customers that complained about their car not starting or honking without cause. The electronic GPS units installed by the company are controlled through a computer system that Omar was able to gain access to allowing him to disrupt customers lives. He was also able to gain access to the accounting software, where he changed information and names of customers in the database.

By the time the Austin High-Tech Crimes Unit was able to catch Omar, he had deactivated 100 cars of the 2,300 cars on the street by this company. Omar now faces 120 days to two years in jail if convicted of the hacking charges laid before him.
