2024 Infiniti QX55: The Perfect Fit for Modern Enthusiasts

When the Infiniti QX55 first launched in 2021, I had some reservations about this new addition to the luxury crossover segment. At first glance, it was clear that Infiniti aimed to combine bold design with advanced technology, but I wasn’t sure if it would all come together cohesively. Fast forward to 2024, and after driving almost every iteration of the QX55, I’ve seen firsthand how this vehicle has evolved into a well-rounded, impressive contender in the luxury crossover market. My time behind the wheel of the 2024 QX55 Sensory AWD has solidified my appreciation for what Infiniti has created, even though it’s not a vehicle for everyone.

A Striking Exterior That Demands Attention

The exterior design of the 2024 Infiniti QX55 Sensory AWD is one of its most compelling features. Infiniti has masterfully blended the aggressive, sporty stance of a coupe with the practicality of a crossover. The result is a vehicle that turns heads wherever it goes. The Dynamic Sunstone Red paint on my test model was particularly striking, catching the light in a way that accentuates the vehicle’s sleek lines and muscular stance. The Sensory trim adds an extra layer of sophistication with Matte chrome mirror caps and bodyside moldings, giving the QX55 a premium, polished look.

The front end is dominated by Infiniti’s signature double-arched grille, flanked by unique cube design LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. These headlights not only enhance the vehicle’s aggressive appearance but also provide excellent visibility, which I appreciated during nighttime drives. The 20-inch dark painted and machine-finished wheels further enhance the QX55’s road presence, making it clear that this is a crossover that’s not afraid to stand out.

Luxurious Interior with Tech to Match

Stepping inside the QX55 Sensory AWD, you’re immediately greeted by an environment that exudes luxury and comfort. The semi-aniline leather-appointed seats, exclusive to the Sensory trim, are not only soft to the touch but also provide excellent support, whether you’re running errands around town or embarking on a long road trip. Speaking of road trips, I’ve taken the QX55 on more than a few, including a memorable drive from Dallas to Bryan, Texas. The seats remained comfortable throughout the journey, and the combination of heating and cooling functions ensured that I stayed at the perfect temperature, no matter the weather outside.

One of the standout features of the QX55’s interior is the dual-screen infotainment system. While I initially had mixed feelings about this setup, I’ve grown accustomed to it over the years. The upper 8-inch screen handles navigation and Apple CarPlay, while the lower 7-inch screen controls climate and audio settings. Although I still prefer the single, larger screen found in other vehicles, I’ve found the dual screens to be functional once you get used to the layout. The addition of a Head-Up Display in the Sensory trim is a welcome touch, keeping vital information within my line of sight and making highway driving even more convenient.

As someone who works in the tech industry and has a passion for both technology and enthusiast cars, the QX55’s interior tech feels like it was designed with someone like me in mind. The wireless Apple CarPlay works flawlessly, and the wireless charging pad keeps the cabin clutter-free. The Bose® Performance Series Audio System with 16 speakers delivers an immersive sound experience that made my drives even more enjoyable. Whether I was listening to podcasts or cranking up the music, the sound quality was consistently impressive.

Driving Dynamics: A Balance of Comfort and Performance

When it comes to driving dynamics, the 2024 QX55 Sensory AWD strikes a balance that I’ve come to appreciate. Under the hood, the 2.0-liter variable compression turbo engine delivers 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. This engine is a marvel of modern engineering, seamlessly adjusting its compression ratio to optimize for either fuel efficiency or performance depending on the driving conditions. I’ve praised this engine in the past, and it continues to impress, offering a responsive and engaging driving experience that’s perfect for both city streets and open highways.

The continuously variable transmission (CVT) paired with this engine might not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially for those who prefer the feel of traditional gear shifts. However, I’ve found that the CVT’s smooth power delivery makes it well-suited for the QX55’s intended use. On my road trip to Bryan, Texas, the QX55 handled long stretches of highway with ease, and the radar-guided cruise control and lane-keeping assist took the stress out of the drive. These safety features, part of Infiniti’s ProPILOT Assist, are particularly useful on long trips, allowing me to relax a bit while still staying alert.

The QX55’s all-wheel-drive system provides added confidence, especially in less-than-ideal weather conditions. It’s not an off-road vehicle by any means, but for the kind of light trails and rougher roads I occasionally encounter, the QX55 handles itself admirably. The ride quality is on the firmer side, which might not appeal to everyone, but for those who prioritize a more connected feel to the road, it’s a trade-off that’s worth it.

Practicality with a Few Compromises

One area where the QX55 might not win over every driver is in cargo space. With 26.9 cubic feet of space behind the second row, it’s adequate for everyday use, but if you need more room, the QX55’s coupe-like design does limit vertical cargo space. Folding the rear seats expands the space to 54.1 cubic feet, which is sufficient for most needs, but if maximum cargo capacity is a priority, the QX55’s sibling, the QX50, might be a better fit.

That said, for my current lifestyle—where most of my kids have graduated and moved on—the QX55’s cargo capacity is more than enough. It easily accommodates my needs, whether it’s a weekend getaway or hauling tech gear for work. The power liftgate, with its motion-activated feature, adds a touch of convenience, making it easy to load and unload the vehicle even when my hands are full.

Final Thoughts

When I first drove the QX55, I had some reservations about whether it could truly stand out in a crowded segment. However, after spending time with the 2024 Infiniti QX55 Sensory AWD, it’s clear that this vehicle has grown on me, and I’ve come to appreciate the unique blend of style, luxury, and performance that it offers. It’s not a vehicle for everyone—those looking for maximum cargo space or a more cushioned ride might want to look elsewhere—but for someone like me, an older Millennial with a love for technology and enthusiast cars, the QX55 is almost a perfect fit. If I were shopping for a new vehicle today, it would be hard to pass up the QX55, which has proven itself to be a strong contender in the luxury crossover market.
