Scrambled! A Koenigsegg ‘Lands’ In Laredo

I got word of this story from my lifelong friend, Edison Parra, who told me that this uber-expensive hypercar had just been spotted in my hometown and was subsequently destroyed across the border in Nuevo Laredo. When he identified the car my first reaction was a typical first reaction, in the form – of course – of a question: “What the F*** is a Koenigsegg CCX doing in Laredo?!”

THE KOENIGSEGG CXX
Pronounced KOw-nig-seG, the 2-place GT is built by a Swedish auto manufacturer that only builds record-shattering hypercars. Master builder Christian Von Koenigsegg is the founder of the company. Von Koenigsegg has a real need for speed that he still hasn’t satisfied. To our benefit, he keeps cranking out machines that would make Speed Racer’s palms sweat. The CCX was the 3rd-generation built between 2006-2010; the company made just 49 cars. Thirty were the CCX, and the rest were exclusive, limited-edition models.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Well, the CCX is an 800+ horsepower hypercar capable of hitting 125 mph in under 10 seconds…what do you think happened? Correct. Lack of talent mixed with poor road conditions. A uber-expensive cocktail that has sent many supercars to an early grave as insurance write-offs.

Nuevo Laredo’s El Manana newspaper broke the story of this engineering masterpiece being turned to Lego pieces less than two hours after crossing the border from Laredo, TX. The two cowboys in the cockpit survived and were taken to the hospital. Doctors reported that the driver suffered cracks in his vertebrae, while the passenger walked away with a broken cheekbone.

Considering what’s left of the CCX, I’d say they were pretty lucky to have survived, let alone be well enough to talk about it. The CCX was spotted pumping gas in Laredo at 9:00 am, and was totaled ninety minutes later.
According to the driver, the road was very slippery and he lost control. The CCX crashed into a dune of dirt that sent the CCX airborne until it connected with a storm pipe. That collision exploded the car back to its core elements before resting in (many expensive) pieces on the side of the road.

Here’s where the story takes an unexpected turn (no pun intended): The driver and passenger claim to have a direct line with the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto. They were on their way to an exhibition in Monterrey. The CCX was a 2009 model purchased second-hand, but still carried a price tag of 1.2 million! Reports say that this was the only CCX Koenigsegg registered in Mexico. I wonder how much it’ll be worth in scrap?
