Dallas’ Park Place Dealerships launches subscription service. Isn’t that nice?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock – or in the White House – over the last year, you’ve probably noticed any number of moves on the transportation front. In fact, we shouldn’t even refer to it as ‘transportation’, as it’s now ‘mobility’. If you believe what you read or hear, autonomy is right around the corner (it’s not), and car sharing will almost certainly supplant car ownership (and that might happen, but not in this writer’s lifetime). If you cast skepticism aside, however, you’ll know that change is underway, and few things speak to that better than an automotive subscription service, such as the one announced by Park Place Dealerships at last month’s Dallas Auto Show.

The premise is simple enough – change cars or SUVs like you’d change sheets – but has been a long time coming. Dubbed Park Place Select (they already had ‘Park Place’, so needed to come up with but one word…), the subscription service will offer handraisers three tiers of selection, all vehicles aligning – as the blurb puts it – ‘with their (subscribers) lifestyle and budget’.

“Park Place Select will transform the way drivers in Dallas/Fort Worth engage in the luxury automotive category,” said Ken Schnitzer, chairman and CEO of Park Place Dealerships. “Subscription services have been emerging for entertainment, retail, and other industries, and now is the perfect time for Park Place to introduce a subscription-based luxury automotive service.”

Again, per the blurb: From date nights (look it up), to family vacations and work events to daily errands or social engagements, Park Place Select can provide the perfect vehicle for the different moments in a client’s ever-changing routine.

The three tiers – Prime, Plus and Premium – feature luxury vehicles from those brands currently under the Park Place umbrella. And within those tiers Park Place offers unlimited ‘flips’ (vehicle changes) in order to better appreciate – and experience – those vehicles in their chosen category. From the ‘Prime’ level at $895/month to the ‘Premium’ at $1795/month (all levels require a $750 one-time registration) this seems a viable means to have the right vehicle for virtually any occasion.

The Select’s entry-level Prime provides choices such as the C Class Mercedes, Volvo S60 or Range Rover Evoque. Spend $900 more per month for the Premium subscription and you can opt for Maserati’s Ghibli (learn – first – how to pronounce it…), Porsche’s Boxster or the new Range Rover Velar. Carpool? Grab the Mercedes GLC. Robbing a 7-11? We’d request the Benz AMG.

As more consumers opt to temporarily extend their leases during the COVID-19 pandemic, it could create “pent-up supply” in the used-vehicle marketplace later in the year. In addition to complicating the shopping experience, the COVID-19 pandemic could have an impact on selection, price and financing. You can find in the market used car in Ottawa Canada with affordable prices now!
