The all-new 2022 Ford Maverick is officially here. There are a lot of details to get through. And since time is money (even at txGarage!), here are simply the hard facts on Ford’s latest and newest member of Ford’s truck stable. 

WHAT IS IT? 

The 2022 Ford Maverick is a unibody 4-door, five-passenger compact pickup truck. 

WHAT DOES THE MAVERICK COST? 

The 2022 Ford Maverick will start at $19,995. 

ENGINE OPTIONS AND PERFORMANCE STATS:  

Ford offers two engine options for the new 2022 Maverick; the standard is a hybrid powertrain. A 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder with an in-house-designed electric traction motor delivers a combined output of 191-horsepower and 155 lb.-ft of torque to the front wheels. Towing capacity is rated at 2,000 lbs with a max payload of 1,500 pounds. 

The second engine option is a more powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that can tow up to 4,000 lbs with an optional 4K Tow package. Front-wheel drive is standard with available all-wheel drive, and both engines use an eight-speed automatic transmission.

As you’d know, the new 2022 Ford Maverick will be the first standard full-hybrid pickup in America. It also has an EPA-estimated rating of 40 mpg in the city with 500 miles of range. 

WHAT IS THE MAVERICK’S FLEXBED?

Essentially, FLEXBED allows customers to personalize the Maverick’s 4.5-foot cargo bed the same way one would organize their toolbox – designated storage. It will enable owners to create segmented sections within the cargo bed. FLEXBED also provides 12 anchor points, two 12-volt 20-amp prewired power sources, and two 110-volt outlets. The tailgate is rated to hold up to 500 pounds. 

INTERIOR FEATURES:

Unique to the Ford Maverick’s interior are Ford Integrated Tether Slots (FIT Slots). These FIT Slots create an opportunity for personalization. Press photos show one FIT Slot located in the back of the center console to attach different accessories, like a cup holder or storage container. An accessory interior package that will include a storage container, cord organizer, double hooks for hanging purses or grocery bags, and dividers for under-seat storage will be available. Under the rear seat, the storage can hold a fully-inflated volleyball, making it ideal for hiding valuables like tools and laptop bags. 

TRIM LEVELS:

Standard trim levels on the 2022 Ford Maverick will include XL, XLT, and Lariat. An FX4 off-road package will also be available, but only on all-wheel-drive variants and Lariat models. The FX4 package features all-terrain tires, specific suspension tuning, underbody protection, off-road-focused drive modes and Hill Descent Control. 

Ford will offer a First Edition package exclusively for the 2022 Maverick model year. This package builds on the Lariat trim level with unique exterior graphics, gloss-black painted roof, a soft tonneau cover, and gloss-black machined 18-inch wheels (for the hybrid) or 17-inch aluminum wheels for EcoBoost. Ford Maverick First Edition color options include Rapid Red, Carbonized Gray, and one named Area 51.

WHEN CAN I BUY IT? 

The Ford Maverick pickup truck goes on sale in fall 2021, and Ford is currently taking reservations on Ford.com.
