Buy Now or Wait for the Upgrade? Looking at the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado Z71

The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 is a mid-size pickup truck that has been updated with a new design for the 2021 model year. The Z71 is one of four trim levels, along with the Work Truck (WT), LT, and ZR2. The Z71 features updated center bars, lower fascias, and front skid plates, and is available with the new “Sand Dune Metallic” exterior paint color option. The truck also features 17” high gloss black wheels and all-terrain tires. The Z71 has a wheelbase of 128.3 inches, length of 212.7 inches, width of 74.3 inches, and a height of 10.6 inches.

The Z71 is available with three different engine options. The standard engine is a 2.5L I4 with 200 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, which is capable of towing up to 3,500 lbs. The 2.8L turbo diesel engine produces 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, and can tow up to 7,700 lbs. The 3.6L V6 engine produces 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, and has a max payload of 1,550 lbs and can tow up to 7,000 lbs.

Inside, the Z71 features jet black leather-appointed seating, a standard rearview camera, and a 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Z71 also has available Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless charging. The truck comes standard with a locking tailgate, and has a maximum payload of 1,550 lbs.

The base WT starts at around $28k, while the LT with the 3.6 V6 starts around $32k. The Z71 has a base price of $38k, and the model reviewed had an MSRP of $44k. The Z71 with 4WD has an EPA rating of 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. Overall, the Z71 is a versatile mid-size truck with plenty of options for customization and a range of engine choices to suit a variety of needs.
