A Thrilling Ride: Discovering the All-New 2024 AMG GLE 53 Coupe

In recent weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of test-driving Mercedes-Benz’s new all-electric offerings, including the EQS and EQE. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the 2024 GLE Coupe, and not just any GLE Coupe – this is the AMG GLE Coupe. Brace yourself for a thrilling ride as we delve into the details of this powerful and stylish vehicle.

The AMG GLE Coupe impresses with its captivating exterior design, effortlessly blending the aesthetics of a sports car with the robustness of a tank. Its Twilight Blue Metallic paint highlights the sleek profile, while the Mercedes AMG waterfall grille, adorned with a prominent Benz logo and discreet AMG branding, takes center stage. The front fascia features large air openings for optimal cooling and aerodynamics, complemented by striking LED headlights with signature daytime running lights. Completing the picture are power-folding side mirrors and eye-catching 21″ AMG Twin 5-Spoke Wheels with Black Accents. At the rear, you’ll find massive quad-exhaust pipes, more AMG badging, and LED taillights, all accentuating the coupe’s raked rear end.

Dimensions:

  • Length: 195.3 in
  • Wheelbase: 115.6 in
  • Width: 84.9 in
  • Height: 67.7 in

The GLE Coupe offers ample cargo space, with 27.5 cubic inches behind the 2nd row and an impressive 63.2 cubic inches behind the 1st row. This versatility ensures you can accommodate both passengers and their belongings without compromise.

Under the hood of the AMG GLE 53 Coupe lies an AMG-enhanced 3.0L inline-6 turbo engine with hybrid assist, delivering an exhilarating 429 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. Combined with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain propels the GLE Coupe from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. The vehicle also boasts the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension based on AIRMATIC, the AMG Performance 4MATIC+® all-wheel drive system, and the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT system, all of which contribute to an exceptional driving experience.

For those seeking even more power, the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is equipped with a handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine with mild hybrid drive, delivering a staggering 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. With a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.7 seconds, the GLE 63 S Coupe is a force to be reckoned with.

Stepping inside the AMG GLE 53 Coupe, you’re greeted with a luxurious and sporty ambiance. The AMG Bahia Brown/Black exclusive Nappa leather upholstery, paired with natural grain brown walnut trim, exudes sophistication. Illuminated running boards add a touch of elegance, while the AMG performance steering wheel in Nappa leather and microfiber enhances the driving experience. The interior is further elevated by the presence of a Burmester® surround sound system and 64-color ambient lighting, allowing you to customize the cabin to suit your mood.

The GLE Coupe features a 12.3″ touchscreen display, seamlessly integrated with the 12.3″ widescreen digital instrument cluster. This setup offers intuitive access to the MB Navigation, Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto functionalities. The inclusion of these cutting-edge technologies ensures a connected and entertaining driving experience.

When it comes to performance, the AMG GLE 53 Coupe impresses with a balance of power and efficiency. It achieves an estimated fuel economy of 18 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and a combined 20 mpg. Whether navigating city streets or conquering open highways, this vehicle offers a spirited and dynamic ride that is sure to please enthusiasts and casual drivers alike.

The base price for the AMG GLE 53 Coupe starts at $89,800, with our test vehicle coming in at a full MSRP of $94,820. While the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe boasts a higher price tag, the V8 engine and additional performance enhancements may be worth the investment for those seeking ultimate power and performance.

Having experienced both the GLE Coupe and GLE SUV, as well as their AMG and non-AMG variants, I continue to be amazed by the exceptional balance of power and practicality that Mercedes-Benz has achieved with these vehicles. While the GLE 450 SUV is an excellent choice for families and day-to-day driving, the GLE Coupe design and AMG trims truly cater to car enthusiasts and sports car aficionados. If your budget allows, opting for the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe with its mighty V8 engine is a no-brainer. However, even the AMG GLE 53 Coupe offers an exhilarating driving experience and represents a great value for those seeking a combination of luxury, style, and performance.
