2027 Genesis GV60 Magma Quick Drive at The Truck Rodeo
At our Truck Rodeo event this year at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur, most of the trucks and SUVs were out on the off-road courses, but the 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma stayed on the pavement. That’s where it belongs. I already liked the GV60 when I reviewed the GV60 Performance earlier this year. It’s one of my favorite looking EVs and one of my favorite driving EVs, and then this Magma just rips your face off.
On the road it seriously is super quick. Dual motors, all-wheel drive with an electronic limited-slip differential, about 600 horsepower and 546 lb-ft. Hit Boost and you get 641 horsepower and 583 lb-ft for 10 seconds. Genesis quotes 3.4 seconds to 60 with Launch Control. The regenerative braking kicking in after you punch the gas is just as intense as the launch. When you do need to plug in, a DC fast charger takes it from 10 to 80 percent in about 18 minutes.
This one is Makalu Gray Matte, which can read matte black-ish in some light. Orange brake calipers, 21-inch wheels, the big Pirelli tires and that big spoiler out back. It’s a great looking vehicle.
The interior is insane. Orange Magma accents all through the Obsidian Black and orange cabin, and big Magma and Boost buttons right on the steering wheel.
The one I drove stickers at $72,995. Base is $69,950, the Makalu Gray Matte is $1,500, and destination is $1,545. EPA range on that sticker is 222 miles. One catch for Texas buyers: Genesis is starting sales only at select retailers in California, New York and New Jersey, so you can’t buy one here yet.
It was crazy. If you’re looking for something super sporty in an EV, this is it, as long as you can live with 222 miles of range and wait for it to reach Texas. Check out our 2026 Honda Pilot Elite AWD Quick Drive from the same event, and more from the Rodeo coming soon.
