TxDOT Prepares DFW for Winter Weather

It’s that time of the year again and the team at TxDOT is working overtime to prepare for the first threat of winter weather in DFW. Texas drivers don’t see much ice or snow on a regular basis and are never prepared for the driving conditions. The people at TxDOT try their best to help keep the roads as drivable as possible. They have issued statements saying crews in Dallas and Fort Worth are ready with salt/sand mixes to treat interchanges, overpasses and bridges. Continue reading

1977 Mercedes Benz 450SEL Wagon – Dallas E-Bay:

1977 Mercedes Benz 450SEL W116 Station Wagon

I love checking out all the great deals you can find on Bring a Trailer, and when I find them in Texas, I try to share. Case in point: this 1977 Mercedes wagon listed on e-bay. This is said to be a long-time Texas car that belonged to Eddie Chiles and features a wrap-around far back seat inside. It’s worth a look if you are into rare cars or European cars, although the reserve has already been met and we don’t see it lasting much longer. Continue reading

Texas opens In-N-Out and causes national attention:

In-n-Out Burger Line in Texas

In-n-Out Burger Line in Texas

A Texas motorist shot this video of the line and excitement leading up to the grand opening of an In-N-Out Burger. Needless to say, too many people in DFW were excited about the franchise moving to our neighborhoods.
In our opinion, it’s been hyped way too much. I’m sure they make good burgers, but I don’t want to sit in a line for 30 minutes or more waiting on lunch. One day I’ll get around to eating there, but other than that, it’s not a big deal.
Thanks for the video kylecorley. Continue reading

Snow Day in DFW

We’ve had some crazy weather here in DFW this week. Go figure, it’s the same week the Super Bowl comes to Texas. This morning, we woke up to anywhere from 3 to 7 inches of snow. Great weather for pictures, but not so much to drive a rear wheel drive sports car.

Check out our short video of the Genesis Coupe out in the snow.

Hop onto facebook and share some of your pictures on the txGarage wall.

Or shoot us an email or @ replay on twitter.

Everyone stay safe! Don’t worry, we’ll be back around 100 degrees soon enough!

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe – the New Grand Touring

Hyundai Genesis GT

Hyundai Genesis GT

The Genesis coupe hit the enthusiast world with no real warning. Not only did people not think that Hyundai could make a sporty car, but to produce one with as much potential as the new coupe seemed to be a shock. Then it hit the streets, and even more so, the community was blown away. This coupe was well priced, had a decent interior, had good power pushing the rear wheels, and actually handled well in the corners. It seems then that Hyundai hit it’s mark.

In Texas, we don’t so much seem to fancy hard track cars. Our big highway system and rough country roads beg for real grand touring cars. You want a car with good power to bolt down I-35, you want good traction and balance for the windy roads of the hill country, and you want a comfortable interior for those long trips from DFW to Austin – or wherever you might be headed. In this case, you’ll want to pick up a new Mustang or Camaro, right? Not so fast. The Genesis Coupe now comes in GT trim, so we decided to test that out on a grand tour blast from Dallas to Austin.

Texas Traffic: Whats Wrong With People Edition

Graham Cracker Rush

Graham Cracker Rush

Yesterday, on June 3rd, an 18-wheeler turned over on I-35 in Dallas causing a traffic nightmare for motorist that evening. However, it wasnothing compared to what went on the next morning. This truck was packed full of Honey Made graham crackers that were scattered along the road side during the accident. Motorist in the morning caused mayhem parking on the shoulder and running across the freeway to get their hand full of graham crackers. WFAA-TV was on the scene and captured numerous people making there way to the pot of gold that lie on the side of the freeway. Some were quoted as saying that it’s a miracle and they are grabbing them for their kids, for snacks. Continue reading

Review: 2010 Toyota Venza

2010 Toyota Venza

2010 Toyota Venza

Sometimes you just don’t have a good day. Something happens in the morning that puts you behind schedule, or someone makes a comment that bugs you all day. Sometimes your bad day can turn into a bad week and sometimes your bad week can turn into a bad month. You never really know what the future brings. All you do know is that you want all these bad things to just stop so your life can start over again. This is how Toyota must be feeling. Toyota is just not having a good year so far. As far as I can tell here, they have had to issue at least 4 recalls in the past few months and have had to terminate selling certain vehicles all together. When they are in the news, it’s most certainly bad news and now when you think of the brand you no longer think superior quality. We are keeping all of this out of consideration while testing our new Toyota vehicles in the garage this month. To us, Toyota is still synonymous with “beige excellence” and this 2010 Toyota Venza is no different. Continue reading

Crash into a Car Show

poor GT500

poor GT500

On a forum I subscribe to called dfwstangs.net I came across a thread posted by a member named 81redstang. He describes a car show that he was attending here in the DFW area and how a lady in a truck crashed into the car show at speed wrecking 4 cars in that show including a GT500.

Here is what he wrote.

Ok so lady in truck crashes through the car show tonight taking out 4 cars including a GT500, she was speeding off the freeway exit and nailed a truck then ricoched in at atleast 60mph. then she tried to drive off! Luckily she couldnt and was quickly relieved of her keys by show participants.

We are happy there was no injuries but sad about the cars. People work so hard and spend so much money to get their car into shape for these car shows, it’s just sad to see things like this happen.
