The Ultimate Luxury Experience: 2022 Mercedes-Benz S580 Sedan 4MATIC

I have recently had the opportunity to test drive and review several Mercedes products, including various models of the E-Class, C-Class, A-Class, SUVs, and even the new EQS all-electric sedan. However, this week I had the pleasure of driving the 7th Generation S-Class, a full-size luxury sedan originally introduced in 1972. The S-Class is considered the top of the line when it comes to Mercedes cars, although there is also the Maybach model, which is based on the S-Class sedan.

The S-Class is available in two trims, the S 500 4MATIC and the S 580 4MATIC, with the latter offering a few different packages to choose from, including the Luxury Line, AMG Line, or Executive Line. During my test drive, I had the S 580 with the Luxury Line package, which featured a Diamond White Metallic exterior, AMG body styling, and gloss black exterior accents. The S 580 also sports a 4.0L V8 biturbo with mild hybrid drive, pushing 469 hp and 516 torque with a 0-60 time of just 4.4 seconds.

The interior of the S-Class was quite impressive, with Macchiato Beige/Magma Grey Nappa leather and Brown Burl Walnut wood trim. The rapid-heating, massaging front seats were comfortable and the 64-color all LED ambient lighting added to the luxurious feel. The S-Class also boasts a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen central multimedia display, Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

On the drive, I experienced the Dynamic Select mode, AIRMATIC suspension, and Magic Vision Control. The fuel economy for the S-Class is 16 city / 25 hwy, which is decent for a vehicle of its size and power. The base price for the S-Class starts at $111,100, with the Executive Line trim starting at $129,100. Competitors to the S-Class include the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Genesis G90, and Lexus LS. Overall, the S-Class is an impressive vehicle that truly embodies luxury and high-performance.
