2025 Nissan Murano Platinum AWD – A Comeback Worth Noticing
The 2025 Nissan Murano marks a major turning point for one of Nissan’s longest-running nameplates. After nearly a decade without a significant update, the Murano enters 2025 with an all-new design, an upgraded interior, and—most notably—a new powertrain that ditches the old CVT for a more refined driving experience. The result is a midsize crossover that finally feels ready to compete again in one of the most crowded segments in the industry. In its top-tier Platinum AWD trim, the Murano brings luxury-level comfort and tech at an approachable price point.
Fresh Exterior Design
The 2025 Murano debuts a completely new look, trading its curvier past for a sharper, more upright aesthetic. The new design features Nissan’s latest V-Motion grille, sleek LED headlights, a more sculpted body, and a rear end that feels cleaner and more upscale. It’s a big leap forward that gives the Murano a stronger presence on the road and more clearly aligns it with Nissan’s latest design language seen on models like the Ariya and Pathfinder.
In Platinum AWD trim, you get premium exterior touches like 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome accents, and available two-tone paint, giving it the upscale appeal that buyers in this segment demand.
All-New Powertrain
One of the biggest and most welcomed changes for 2025 is under the hood. The outdated 3.5L V6 and continuously variable transmission (CVT) have been replaced with a more modern and responsive turbocharged setup:
- 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine
- Variable compression technology (VC-Turbo)
- Up to 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque
- 9-speed automatic transmission
- Available all-wheel drive (standard on Platinum)
This new powertrain brings improved throttle response, better fuel economy, and a more refined driving feel — all areas where the previous Murano was starting to fall behind.
Upgraded Interior and Features
The interior of the 2025 Murano has been completely redone, featuring a more premium and tech-savvy layout. The Platinum trim includes high-end materials like quilted leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim, and a dual-display setup with large digital screens.
Key features in the Platinum AWD model include:
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- Bose premium audio system
- Panoramic moonroof
- Heated and ventilated front seats
- Heated rear seats
- Wireless phone charging
- ProPILOT Assist 2.1 with hands-free highway driving
- Surround-view monitor and front/rear parking sensors
This new interior gives the Murano a much-needed boost in premium feel and functionality, bringing it in line with newer competitors like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda Passport, and Chevrolet Blazer.
Pricing and Trim Levels (Estimated)
Here’s an overview of expected pricing for the 2025 Nissan Murano lineup:
- S FWD – ~$38,000
- SV AWD – ~$41,000
- SL AWD – ~$45,000
- Platinum AWD – ~$49,000–$51,000
Exact pricing may vary depending on options and packages, but the Platinum trim delivers a strong value for a well-equipped, near-luxury crossover.
First Drive Impressions at the Texas Auto Roundup
I had the chance to drive the 2025 Nissan Murano Platinum AWD at the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) Texas Auto Roundup, and I was pleasantly surprised by just how much of an upgrade this new model is. The outgoing Murano had become difficult to recommend in recent years, but this all-new version feels like a return to form. The ride is smooth, the turbo powertrain is responsive, and the cabin feels comfortable and modern. It may not be the flashiest in its class, but it’s finally a real contender again. Check out my video from the event for more thoughts on the redesigned Murano and why it’s back on the radar for midsize SUV shoppers.
