Fiat’s tiny Topolino had everyone talking at the State Fair

There was no press conference for this one. At Stellantis media day at the State Fair of Texas, the Fiat Topolino was just parked between the Alfa Romeo and Dodge booths, mint green with a Fiat info sign propped in the windshield. And it had everyone stopping, looking and then talking about it the rest of the day.

I’d call this thing a golf cart, but that may be unfair to golf carts. It’s tiny. Tiny but cute for sure. I didn’t sit in it, so here’s what Fiat says it is.

What it is

Fiat calls the Topolino a low-speed vehicle, not a car. It’s a two-seat electric runabout, and it went on sale in the U.S. in July in limited numbers through select dealers. The price is $13,995 before destination. The name means “little mouse” in Italian, which fits.

It has a 5.4-kWh battery, and Fiat says it goes up to 46 miles on a charge. A full charge takes about five hours from a regular household outlet. It weighs 1,073 pounds.

As delivered, the top speed is 19 mph. Fiat offers a free street-legal conversion kit that adds a backup camera, a pedestrian alert and a rearview mirror, and it raises the top speed to 25 mph. Fiat’s website lists the kit as expected in fall 2026. Even with the kit, the Topolino can’t go on highways or major roads.

There are two versions at the same price, and both come in one color Fiat calls Verde Vita. The Topolino has doors and a glass roof. The Dolcevita swaps the doors for ropes and gets a roll-back soft top.

Who it’s for

Fiat is upfront about this. It says most golf cart owners in the U.S. use them for a lot more than golf, and it’s aiming the Topolino at that crowd in private and gated communities, resorts, beach towns and marinas. Here in Texas, I can picture one in a lake community or a big neighborhood where people already take a golf cart to the pool.

It’s not a car replacement. Two seats, 46 miles of range and 19 mph as delivered make it a second or third vehicle for short trips. For a family like mine, it would be a fun extra, not the daily driver. If you’re curious, Road & Track reports that any Fiat dealer can choose to sell it, so your local Fiat dealer is the place to ask.

At $13,995, I get why people stopped to look. You don’t see something this small at an auto show very often.

The Texas Auto Show runs alongside the fair through Sunday, Oct. 18 at Fair Park in Dallas, with the buildings open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Check out our full State Fair game plan, our look at what Ram brought and Jeep’s electric Recon and indoor off-road course.
