ROCKERS AND MODS THIS SATURDAY AT LEE HARVEY’S: CAN’T BUY ME LOVE?

Dallas – Roughly fifty years ago British bikers (Rockers) famously rumbled – if that’s the word – with Brits aboard scooters (Mods), the result of which was the first Rockers vs. Mods get-together recorded by the worldwide media, and later detailed by Wikipedia. To be sure, the clash between leather-clad guys on bikes and suits on scooters didn’t resonate here like Hollister resonated here (Life magazine didn’t have a reporter in Brighton), but it was quite the story over that Easter weekend in England.

The get-together this Saturday at Lee Harvey’s (1807 Gould Street, Dallas) won’t – we hope – feature any rumbling, other than that emanating from a British twin. The bikes (many provided by the North Texas Norton Owners Association) should be in place by 2:00 p.m., two bands are booked, and the beer will be cold long before the bikes get there.
