Lexus IS 500 F SPORT Performance: A Symphony of Power and Style

For over two decades, the Lexus IS has been an embodiment of the connection between car enthusiasts and their beloved Lexus machines, captivating hearts around the world. In 2021, Lexus elevated this legacy with the introduction of the all-new IS, bringing the exhilaration of driving to new heights through their Lexus Driving Signature. But the excitement didn’t stop there. In 2022, the IS 500 F SPORT Performance roared onto the scene, featuring a formidable 5.0-liter V8 engine that unleashed a jaw-dropping 472 horsepower and 395 lb.-ft. of torque. Fasten your seatbelts, because we’re about to dive into the world of the 2023 Lexus IS 500 F SPORT Performance.

The Lexus IS lineup is a treasure trove for enthusiasts, featuring a range of trims. But the spotlight today is on the IS 500. While the Lexus website distinguishes the IS and IS 500 as separate models, the IS lineup encompasses an array of options, including the IS 300, IS 350, and, of course, the IS 500 F SPORT Performance and IS 500 F SPORT Performance Premium.

We’re taking a closer look at the Performance Premium trim of the IS 500, which, despite the name, offers only subtle differences from its siblings.

The 2023 Lexus IS 500 immediately catches your eye, especially in the striking Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 paint. It sports a low and imposing stance, accentuated by a unique singular taillamp that narrows to mere millimeters in the center. The dramatic character lines exude aggression, perfectly mirroring the thrill you’ll experience behind the wheel.

The F SPORT Performance style elevates the game further with exclusive upgrades, including an elevated hood, stacked quad exhaust tips, and 19-inch Enkei alloy wheels with a Dark Metallic finish. In 2023, the IS 500 comes standard with new 19-inch Enkei alloy wheels, ensuring it looks as bold as it performs.

The IS 500 offers a respectable cargo capacity of 10.8 cubic feet, making it practical for day-to-day use.

Beneath the hood, the 2023 IS 500 hides a beastly 5.0-liter V8 engine. This naturally aspirated powerhouse churns out a staggering 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to an 8-speed sport direct-shift automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Unlike the rest of the IS lineup, the IS 500 is exclusively rear-wheel drive (RWD), adding to the thrill of the drive.

Size:
– Length: 187.3 inches
– Wheelbase: 110.2 inches
– Width: 72.4 inches
– Height: 56.5 inches

Stepping inside the IS 500, you’ll find a white NuLuxe® interior with satin trim, creating a luxurious and sporty atmosphere. The driver-inspired cockpit is adorned with a convenient touchscreen display, leather-trimmed shift knob and steering wheel, and daring design elements like accent stitching along the dash and turbine-like circular air vents. It’s a setting that revolves around you and your passion for driving.

Tech-savvy users will appreciate the IS 500’s non-premium version with an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, while the Premium variant boasts a larger 10.3-inch display for added convenience and visual appeal.

The heart of the matter—the driving experience. The IS 500 offers a spirited performance that lives up to its sporty appearance. It boasts an EPA estimated 17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined. Acceleration is a thrill, with 0-60 mph achieved in a blistering 4.4 seconds. The F-Sport-tuned adaptive variable suspension ensures a smooth and responsive ride, and powerful braking is provided by 4-piston calipers with 14.0-inch ventilated discs in the front and 2-piston calipers with 12.7-inch ventilated discs in the rear.

The starting point for the IS 500 Performance is a tad over $60,000, while the IS 500 Performance Premium begins at a base MSRP of $64,520.

The 2023 Lexus IS 500 F SPORT Performance is undeniably impressive, marrying a distinctive design with potent performance. While it may be showing some signs of age, it continues to scream “Lexus” from the inside. With a V8 engine under the hood, it’s a rare gem in today’s automotive landscape. And while the BMW 4-Series Grand Coupe might be tempting, the IS 500 remains a strong contender. Opting for the Lexus means choosing a more reliable and better-built machine, and you certainly won’t be faulted for that decision. So, if you’re seeking a thrilling ride that blends luxury with power, the IS 500 is an enticing choice. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!
