Exploring the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Limited: A Family Adventure Unleashed

The anticipation is real as we delve into the world of the all-new 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Limited. This mid-size, 3-row crossover stands tall on the same platform as its smaller sibling, the Highlander, but it carves its niche above the Highlander and below the robust Sequoia.

Toyota aims to cater to a broad spectrum of preferences with three powertrains across three grades: the 2.4L turbo gas engine, the 2.5L hybrid boasting an estimated 34 combined MPG, and the Hybrid MAX with a formidable 362 horsepower. Embracing Toyota’s commitment to carbon neutrality, the Grand Highlander Hybrid and Hybrid MAX proudly don the “Beyond Zero” badge, aligning with the global effort to achieve carbon neutrality in Toyota’s products and beyond.

Offering versatility, the Grand Highlander comes in four distinct trims: Hybrid XLE, Hybrid Limited, Hybrid MAX Limited, and Hybrid Max Platinum. For our exploration, we are driving the Limited trim.

Dressed in Coastal Cream Paint, the Grand Highlander commands attention with LED headlights, taillights, and fog lights. The black-painted front grille and Logo Side Puddle Lamps add a touch of sophistication, complemented by the 20-inch alloy wheels. Sizing up impressively with a wheelbase of 116.1 inches, length of 201.4 inches, height of 72.1 inches, width of 78.3 inches, and a ground clearance of 8 inches, the Grand Highlander makes a bold statement.

Practicality meets convenience with a hands-free power liftgate, offering 20.6 cubic feet of cargo volume, expanding to 57.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and a capacious 97.5 cubic feet in total.

Under the hood, the Grand Highlander flaunts two hybrid powertrain options. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Hybrid powertrain packs 245 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, offering a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. Meanwhile, the 2.4-liter turbo Hybrid Max impresses with a robust 362 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, capable of towing up to 5,000 lbs.

Step inside to discover a spacious haven with seating for 7, expandable to 8. The interior boasts leather-trimmed Black/Alpi seats, ensuring a comfortable and stylish journey for all passengers. The second-row retractable window sunshades add a thoughtful touch.

Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system with 11 JBL speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The 12.3-inch color multi-info driver display provides all the necessary information at a glance.

The Grand Highlander doesn’t just look good; it offers a dynamic driving experience with Drive Mode Select, featuring Sport, Eco, Normal, EV, and Trail Modes. Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 with Pre-Collision ensures a secure ride. With a fuel economy of 36 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined, the Grand Highlander strikes a balance between power and efficiency.

For those budget-conscious consumers, the XLE starts at a reasonable $45,000. Stepping up to the Limited trim, the base price is $51,000, with our review car showcasing an MSRP of $54,083. For those seeking the pinnacle of luxury, the Platinum trim starts at $58,000.

After a week of rigorous testing and family travels, the Grand Highlander lived up to its promises. It’s more than just a larger version of the Highlander; it’s a testament to Toyota’s commitment to quality and practicality. As a family man and automotive enthusiast, I give the Grand Highlander a resounding thumbs up and wholeheartedly recommend it. The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Limited is a compelling choice for those seeking adventure without compromising on comfort and efficiency.
