Houston Texas Sinkhole Swallows a Kid

The drought has taken a toll on Texas, including our transportation infrastructure. It’s believed that the dry conditions, mixed with recent rains, caused this massive sinkhole to open up a Houston street.

Standing on the corner, 16 year old Giovanni Long was sucked into this six-foot deep sinkhole. He’s stated “Everything beneath me crumbled. I was trying to dig my way out of the hole, but the ground kept breaking back into me. It’s funny now that I think about it… but when it happened, it was actually scary.”

Houston Drag Strip - Up in flames

Houston Drag Strip - Up in flames

This video was taken at Houston Motorsport Park of a Dodge going up in flames after crashing. Reports say that the vehicle blew two times: once from the impact of the gas tank and once from the nitrous system. This goes to show that even in a controlled environment, horrible things can happen when it all goes wrong. Continue reading

Houston, TX Suspect takes cop car for joy ride

When are police going to learn?
Check out this news story from Houston, abc channel 13, about a suspect stealing a police car and running from the cops.

Suspect takes cop car for joy ride
HOUSTON (KTRK) — You could say it was a bit of an unusual chase on the southeast side Thursday night.

Police found themselves trying to catch up with a man who had just stolen a police car and took if for a joyride. That car and the driver were located in the city of South Houston, but police say what he did on the way there put other people’s lives in danger. It also was a close call for a wrecker driver and a gas station owner after that white stolen cruiser came straight at them.

Hennessey Venom GT

Hennessey Venom GT

Hennessey Venom GT

Our buddies at Hennessy announced a few years ago that they would be building a supercar of their own. Going from a tuning shop to producing your own supercar doesn’t happen overnight and now almost two years after their announcement they are telling us the car will be debuting at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010.

If you have been following the Venom GT you know it was supposed to be powered by the Viper V10, as Hennessey has a good relation with the Viper brand. We also heard that it would be weighing in at 2700 lbs with a 1,000 horsepower ratting. Now we are hearing a little different, but better, story. Hennessey is now saying that the Venom GT will be powered by a “Hennessey V8” the weight is down to 2400 lbs and horsepower is up to 1,200 bhp. This spectacular looking mid-engine supercar will be able to deliver the goods, but will it make a real splash within the supercar world? That we’ll just have to wait and see…

Ferrari F458 Italia

Italian Super Cars and Texas open roads have been living in harmony for decades now. From the racing Risi Competizione team in American LeMans based out of Houston to the plethora of well off enthusiast all around Texas. Well today is a day of excitement for these people as Ferrari comes out with their latest press release.

There has been a lot of speculation of what will be the next big V8 mid engine car, from Ferrari, would be to replace the F430. Today we have the first public shown images of the all new Ferrari 458 Italia and a few early details. This super car will feature a direct injected 4.5 liter V8 pushing 562 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque reaching a massive 9,000 RMP redline.  Weighing in at 3,042 lbs this light weight super car, with the help of the seven speed dual clutch gear box form the California, gets a reasonable 17.1mpg.

No doubt that this will be a quick car, estimates put a 0-62 time at 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph. in usual Ferrari fashion you get an aluminum chassis and lots of F1 technology packed in and the looks only the Italians can give the world.  There is no pricing information or production numbers released yet but expect this new Ferrari to sell out as soon as they are announced, even in this economy. Expect the car to be shown at this September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
