Toyota and Bass Pro Shops Take a Hike

With a truck plant in San Antonio, its largest independent distributor (Gulf States Toyota) in Houston and an all-new corporate headquarters planned for suburban Dallas, you’d be hard pressed to find an automaker with a more significant commitment to Texas. And that commitment grows this summer, when Toyota – in partnership with Bass Pro Shops and the Texas Park and Wildlife Department – head for the Great Outdoors. And while you don’t have to purchase anything, the folks at Toyota (and their dealers) sure hope you will at least consider it!

The outdoor options begin with the Toyota Tundra Summer Camp. Purchasers (warned ya’…) of the Special Edition Toyota Tundra in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma or Texas receive roughly $1,000 of Bass Pro camping gear. And if you’ve seen or driven Toyota’s Tundra, you know it could probably swallow roughly $10K worth of Bass Pro camping gear while pulling a way-long Bass Pro boat.

For those hoping to stay inside before venturing outside, Bass Pro Shops are hosting a Family Summer Camp. There, participants are exposed to the basic skills needed to enjoy the great outdoors together. The curriculum will include basic instruction in camping, fishing, archery and hunting. Notably, there will be a Toyota Tundra Summer Camp in each in-store community.

Beyond the above, happily, is the charitable contribution. As part of its Tundra Summer Camp, Toyota will donate camping gear and funding for Texas Park and Wildlife scholarships. These funds allow children and families to enjoy the fun of camping, which sounds like an attractive alternative to Houston’s horrific humidity or San Antonio’s sweltering sun. All of the above, of course, assumes that it eventually stops raining. Find more information at Texas Outdoor Family Workshops.
