Plug-In Hybrid– Quick Drive in the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime
The RAV4 comes in a few different flavors these days. You have your standard gas RAV4, you can get a TRD RAV4 with some serious off-road potential, you can have a Hybrid RAV4 and now we have the RAV4 Prime which is a Plug-in Hybrid option.
The RAV4 is a compact crossover that now sits above the all-new Corolla Cross which we just published a video on that vehicle if you’re interested in checking out. The Prime is offered in either an SE or XSE trim with its base price starting at $40,300. Fuel economy comes in with an estimated 40 mpg city / 36 highway/comb 38 MPG or 94 MPGe – which I’ll admit, I don’t know how that’s calculated.
The powertrain is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder connected with the Plug-in Hybrid.
At the end of the day, I think you’d really have to want a crossover that’s a plug-in hybrid which might be a dying segment with the emergence of fully electric crossovers. That $40k base price is a lot to ask for a RAV4 but I do think it’s a great vehicle for what you get.
